Ai piedi di Cristo

Joe Pansa

A reportage narrative is like a journey into the heart of humanity, where words are the compass guiding us through the lives of real people and the challenges they face daily. It is an ode to hidden truth, carved in images, revealing the beauty and poignant complexity of the world around us. In every photo, the pulse of distant places and intertwined destinies beats, while the observer’s attentive eye captures the essence of stories that deserve to be told.

Among the winding alleys of old Bari, the soul of an ancient and fascinating city unfolds with grace and mystery. Here, the centuries-old stones tell stories of past centuries, while the colors and scents of the Mediterranean Sea envelop the senses in a warm and embracing hug. In my photographic reportage on Bari, I strive to capture the magic of these narrow alleys, where sunlight creeps between the white houses and illuminates the crumbling facades, revealing traces of a rich and complex history. Each shot is an attempt to capture the essence of this city steeped in tradition, where past and present intertwine in a timeless dance.

In the heart of old Bari, among the peeling walls and outdoor laundries, life continues to flow with a contagious vitality. The elderly gather in the squares to share stories and laughter, while the young immerse themselves in trendy bars and restaurants, bringing a breath of freshness to the ancient fabric of the city. In my lens, these alleys are not just streets but corridors of memory, where every stone tells of past generations. The people of Bari, with their hospitality and love for life, are the true soul of these alleys.

In this reportage, Bari reveals itself in its most authentic shades, in the faces and stories of the people who call it home. Through my lens, Bari becomes a visual poem, an ode to the intrinsic beauty of everyday life and the strength of the bonds that tie people to this enchanted city. Thus, in the narrow streets of old Bari, my camera becomes a tool to celebrate the beauty of simplicity, the art of hospitality, and the poetry of life itself. I offer a small fragment of this wonderful city, hoping to convey its unique spirit to anyone who may contemplate my images.
